Overview of Research and Translations
There is a tremendous amount of ongoing research with the schema inventories, especially with the Young Schema Questionnaires. In fact, it has proven impossible to keep up with all the studies in progress.
The YSQ, and some of the other inventories, have already been translated into many languages, including: French, Spanish, Dutch, Turkish, Japanese, Finnish, and Norwegian, to name just a few. Before undertaking a translation of your own, be sure to go to the Permission to Use section first.
Published and Ongoing Studies
The two most complete general published studies to date are:
Schmidt, N.B., Joiner, T.E., Young, J.E., & Telch, M.J. (1995). The Schema Questionnaire: Investigation of psychometric properties and the hierarchical structure of a measure of maladaptive schemata. Cognitive Therapy and Research, 19(3), 295-321.
Lee, C.W., Taylor, G. & Dunn, J. (1999). Factor structure of the schema questionnaire in a large clinical sample. Cognitive Therapy and Research, 23(4), 441-451.
Several French researchers collaborated on a study of Cottraux's French translation of the YSQ. This study was published as:
Mihaescu, G., Sechaud, M., Cottraux, J., Velardi, A., Heinze, X., Finot, S.C. & Baettig, D. (1997). Le questionnaire des schemas cognitifs de Young: traduction et validation preliminaire. [The Young Cognitive Schema Questionnaire: translation and preliminary validation.] Encephale, 23(3), 200-208.
Glenn Waller, Ph.D., and his colleagues have a number of studies in press or under review using several of the inventories with eating disorders. He can be reached through the Dept. of Psychiatry at St. George's Hospital Medical School in London, England. His group's most recently published study using the YSQ is:
Leung, N., Waller, G. & Thomas, G. J. (1999). Core beliefs in anorexic and bulimic women. Journal of Nervous & Mental Disorders, 187(12), 736-741.
Jordi Cid has completed a major analysis of the Spanish translation of the YSQ. He can be reached by e-mail at: esqcidta@copc.es.
Several other studies are available through Dissertation Abstracts.
